Insights from American Adults and Policy Influencers: AI Chatbots in the 2024 Election
In March 2024, BlueLabs ran a multi-modal omnibus poll of the general US adult population and policy influencers to ask a series of questions about the 2024 election and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
This poll highlighted the kinds of product features or support people would like to see AI chatbots provide to users related to the 2024 election. Notably, half of the American public thinks that chatbots should not answer any election-related questions. There is also a sharp partisan divide: Republicans are particularly unsupportive of chatbots providing information on candidate positions, how to vote, and how to volunteer or support campaigns.
The people who have the power to affect legislative priorities and sway public opinion such as elected officials, Congressional staffers, business executives, and journalists are somewhat more cautious than the general public about chatbots answering election-related questions. However, these policy influencers are more open to chatbots creating candidate or issue-focused content.
This poll was conducted among a random national population of 2,471 registered and unregistered adults from February 26-March 3, 2024.
